DSA vs PSLE AL score

A record-breaking 16,900 Primary 6 students applied for Direct School Admission (DSA) this year, accounting for nearly 40% of the cohort. As reported by Lianhe Zaobao, this 20-year high reflects a significant shift in how Singaporean families are approaching secondary school admissions.

The reality of the current AL scoring system is that many students achieve identical scores. This "bunching" effect introduces an element of unpredictability into the standard Secondary 1 posting, where ties are often broken by computerised balloting. A stark example occurred during the post PSLE 2025 posting for Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Secondary School, where its G3 classes admitted no non-affiliated, non-DSA students simply because the remaining quota was entirely filled by the DSA intake.

Why DSA Matters Now

Given these shifts, DSA has naturally evolved into a practical way for families to secure peace of mind. It allows students to showcase their strengths well before the PSLE, reducing the reliance on a single set of examination scores.

At Ryse Education, we understand that navigating this landscape can feel complex for both parents and students. However, we also see it as an incredible opportunity for your child to be recognized for more than just academic metrics.

Discovering Your Child’s Narrative

A successful DSA application isn't about assembling a generic checklist of achievements. It’s about communication. Every child has a unique combination of interests, character traits and experiences that schools value.

Our role at Ryse is to guide your child in uncovering that personal journey. We work closely with families to help students identify their authentic strengths, build confidence and learn how to clearly narrate their own story to admissions panels.

By focusing on who they are as individuals, we can help them approach the DSA process with clarity, purpose and confidence.
